How Chiropractic Care may benefit you

Introduction

Chiropractic is a professional, valuable and natural treatment option offered to all Australians to improve quality of life. The primary focus of Chiropractic is the restoration of function. Chiropractors assess and diagnose the problem, then plan and administer treatment programs that aim to restore function or minimise dysfunction after disease or injury.

Chiropractors strive to improve an individual’s quality of life by physical means. A combination of manual and gentle manipulative therapy, movement training and exercises may help to achieve this. Chiropractors also offer you personal advice on stretching and strengthening exercises, posture, diet, lifting procedures and stress management.

Adequate education provided to Australians may lead to the prevention of many physical problems and this is a priority area for Chiropractors.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body.

The skull protects the delicate tissues of the brain. The moving bones of the spine protect the vulnerable communication pathways of the spinal cord and nerve roots. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissue and organs throughout the body.

When a vertebrae is not functioning properly Chiropractic doctors may call this the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) or spinal joint dysfunction. Vertebral, meaning the bones of the spine.

Subluxation, meaning the less than a total dislocation, and Complex, meaning consisting of more than one part.

Chiropractic is the science of locating offending spinal structures, the art of reducing their impact to the joints and nervous system, and a philosophy of natural health care based on your inborn potential to be healthy.

What are vertebral subluxations?

A vertebral subluxation is the result of spinal bones with improper motion or position affecting nerve communications between your brain and your body.

sub = less than   |   luxation = dislocation

A vertebral subluxation is a stress response. Muscles go into spasm. Spinal joints lock up. And adjacent nerves can be choked, chaffed or inflamed. This can interfere with the control and regulation of your body. This may garble communication between the brain and parts of your body.

A dropped mobile phone call is irritating. But dropped communications between your brain and your body may seriously impair your health!

Distorted nerve communication may be an underlying cause of many health problems beyond headaches and back pain.

Your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. These nerve impulses travel through your spine. So having a spine free of nerve interference is essential for optimal health.

A chiropractic examination may detect vertebral subluxations. And chiropractic adjustments may reduce their effect to your nervous system, naturally.

“It is important to find out if you have vertebral subluxations to make sure they do not become more serious and more difficult to correct”, suggests Dr. Michael Haworth.

Chiropractic adjustments may be a very important part of your health care.

Spinal joints that aren’t moving correctly may choke or irritate nearby nerves. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to these stuck joints, potentially reducing nervous system disruption.

Like lifting a heavy rock off your toe, our patients report a pleasant sense of release directly following their adjustments.

Many Techniques

Sometimes a specific, highly-accurate thrust is used. Or an instrument delivers carefully directed energy. Or a slow, constant pressure is used. Several areas may be adjusted, or just one. Sometimes a popping sound is heard. You can go to our About Us page to see some of the chiropractic techniques we use.

Feels Great

Because we rely on adjustments to help your body correct itself and have been doing so for many years, we’re experts at adjusting your spine.

Most patients report a sense of well-being and ease. After all, if adjustments weren’t pleasant, our patients wouldn’t return for the multiple visits needed to retrain their spine!

All Shapes and Sizes Catered For

Newborns, infants, children, seniors and even back surgery patients can get adjusted. Naturally, says Dr. Michael Haworth, adjustments are tailored to your size, age and health issue, for example, the pressure used to adjust a small child is about the same as that you would use to check the firmness of a tomato.
